Panelware replacement

Subject of the contract: control software and hardware
Škoda Auto a. s. decided to replace old unsatisfactory panelware units (operator panels for assembly lines maintenance, which are not produced more) with new panels. There was a special requirement: this replacement should proceed without any changes to the software and control system configuration. 12" touch displays QuickPanel Control have been chosen in the end. They have high-performance CPU and many ports (USB, LAN, CompactFlash slot, serial ports). Windows CE are used as an operating system and installed applications make graphical entities display and ladder logic programming possible.
Application for controlling equipment in paintshop was programmed in Cimplicity ME programming envinronment. QuickPanels use several communication methods and we used communication via Genius bus. We used both global data (spread through Genius Bus indefinitely) and datagrams (they are addressed to the specific device). This communication method is like old panelware used and due to this method we were able to remove old devices and install new QuickPanels without any changes in PLC programme or in control system in general. This advantage proved its worth while installing new QuickPanel and it would be priceless if a new QuickPanel should has got failured or broken down. If the new installed QuickPanel broke down replacement and project load would have taken only 30 minutes.
